World of Goo HD iPad Review

World of Goo was a huge hit on both PC and WiiWare, but the game shines brightest on iPad. 2D Boy's outstanding puzzler is a joy to play, largely because of the excellent touch controls that make this gem a much more immersive experience. Our advice? Cough up the ten bucks and download this title ASAP.

Here's how it works. Each puzzle tasks you with using a requisite number of Goo Balls to build a structure (be it tower or bridge) to reach a pipe with vacuum sucking action. Do this successfully, and the pipe inhales the remaining Goo Balls and you receive a certain number of points.

It seems easy on paper, but the game's quite a head scratcher. Not only must you save a certain amount of Goo Balls, but the excellent physics also make building tricky. You can reuse them, but choosing the wrong one may result in a devastating collapse that forces you to restart from the beginning. Meanwhile, the developers mix things up with different types of Goo Balls, forcing you to approach puzzles in new ways.

Now as we previously mentioned, the touch controls make this title far more appealing than the Wii or PC versions. It's one thing to use a remote or mouse to interact, but the touch and drag makes it seem like this game was custom built for the iPad. It's the perfect marriage.

In addition, there's a cool feature where players combine their efforts to build the largest towers of goo. 2D Boy describes it as a living leaderboard. We just think it's a sweet bonus to a phenomenal video game.

We literally have nothing bad to say about World of Goo. It's a wonderful puzzle game that every iPad owner needs to download. Prepare to spend hours, if not weeks, playing this one.

Requirements: Compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later.

What's Hot: Wonderful concept, excellent touch controls, a ton of puzzles, great use of goo.

What's Not: Nothing. It's incredible.
