Pro Zombie Soccer iPhone Review

Spain just defeated Germany in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and we just splattered hundreds of zombies in Pro Zombie Soccer, a hybrid action/sports game from Chillingo. In this beautiful and fun to play iPhone App, you destroy legions of undead freaks with a soccer ball. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but the developers did an incredible job taking a simple concept and transforming it into one of the most addictive titles you'll play. Ah yes, and it temporarily costs .99.

In the game, you play as Jax, a guy who has a run-in with a brain-munching zombie, except this isn't your standard issue monster. It's one of the greatest soccer players of all time. The creature bites our hero and somehow transfers its prowess on the field into his blood, granting him the ability to kick a soccer ball like Landon Donovan.

This new skill comes in handy for dealing with the zombie apocalypse. To play, you slide your finger up and down the screen to aim and then let it rip. If done right, the ball will travel through zombies, leaving behind limbs and clouds of red mist. It's sort of like Plants vs. Zombies and Breakout in the sense that aside from his super charged leg, you have no control over Jax. Instead, you make a heroic last stand, the goal to keep the hordes at bay.

It's great fun, especially when different zombie types (ones that run, others that require more than one hit) crowd the screen. We also love the hand-drawn graphics, which sport cartoon style characters and environments. Finally, the game has an original heavy metal soundtrack that will pump you up while unleashing hell.

We love Pro Zombie Soccer. The sharp visuals and satisfying gameplay make it our newest guilty pleasure, as well as one of the most imaginative zombie titles in the App Store. Since it costs a buck, there's no reason to avoid it.

What's Hot: Gorgeous 2-D graphics, simple controls, fun concept, different types of zombies.

What's Not: Nothing. It's sweet.
