Taiko Drum Master Review

Surprisingly addictive and well put together.
My drum peripheral just won't hook up to a cell phone, let's face it.
I love Taiko Drum Master to death on my PlayStation 2. Just being able to play a life-size replica drum to such tunes as "Don Rangers!" and classic Namco beats just makes my day, no matter how much it gets ruined by traffic tickets or actual work or what have you. However, when I heard about a version for the cell phone market, I was skeptical. Obviously, the game would not be able to use the peripheral made for the PS2 game, so how it would play? Would it simply be any good?
The answer is a resounding yes. Namco has done a superb job in copying the visual stylings of the game, using cartoonish characters and drums to move things along. The songs are also exceptional, with over 15 favorites to choose from including several Namco classic tunes that are certain to draw the attention of long-time fans of the company. RIDGE RACER LIVES!!
As far as controls, like I said, nothing compares with the PS2 version. But what we have here is still a solid rhythm music game that requires you to have certain keypad strokes in order to move ahead. It's very responsive and fits the bill rather surprisingly.
So I won't stop playing the PS2 (or PSP) version, but the cell phone version is a perfect game to have on the go. It's just as addictive and stylish as the console version, if not arcade exact. So get out there and pound some digital drums!
