iStunt 2 HD iPad Review
Grab your virtual snowboard and hit the slopes in iStunt 2, a thoroughly entertaining sports game for the iPhone and iPad. Developer Miniclip merged Shaun White with Sonic the Hedgehog to create an over the top and thrilling App full of death-defying leaps, insane drops and long winding loops.
Each of the game's 42 levels challenges you to keep your boarder alive at all costs while collecting stars along the way. Thing is, and since iStunt 2 has 2-D side scrolling graphics, it's impossible to see much of the track, which forces you to make split second decisions or suffer deadly consequences.
These hazards come in all types, from razor sharp pieces of ice to saw blades and dangerous rocks. You must act quickly, rotating the device to keep the snowboarder upright while paying close attention to the ever changing scenery and signs that instruct you to jump and duck, achieved by swiping up and down the screen, respectively.
Meanwhile, the designers throw items onto the track that give the character a speed boost and change gravity, challenging you to snowboard upside down through loops that would make Sonic blush.
Overall, it's a lot of fun, especially as you unlock achievements and post high scores through Game Center, but you'll need a certain level of patience to deal with constant restarts that make iStunt 2 more of a stop and go experience; it definitely puts a damper on the action. The fact that the camera tends to get stuck at the worst possible moments, revealing ice shards when it's too late, doesn't help.
Thankfully, the game has a wonderful checkpoint system that gives you the perfect chance to memorize parts of a stage so that next time, it's smooth sailing all the way through.
That said, you'll either love this game or get extremely annoyed at constantly dying, but with plenty of stages and downloadable content on the way, iStunt 2 is a worthy addition to your App collection.
