Super Yum Yum 3 Review

Entertaining gameplay, four wonderful worlds to explore, the mini-game is a lot of fun and lets you kick your children (in a good way), dirt-cheap at three bucks.
Too much cute, controls take some getting used to.
Super Yum Yum 3 is ridiculously cute. The characters, including the main hero Leon the Chameleon, his various children and the villainous Ms. Tum Tum look adorable. If that makes you want to vomit, don't fret. Beneath the candy sweet exterior is a fun puzzle game worth the three dollar asking price.
Leon, a responsible single parent, steps out for a moment, only to return and find his kids eaten by a weird fish woman named Ms. Tum Tum. Not all is lost, however. Instead of succumbing to her stomach acid, they were teleported to the game's four different worlds. It's up to Leon to find them and put Ms. Tum Tum in her place.
To proceed through each stage, Leon needs to eat fruit, and we mean lots of it. However, there's a catch. At the top of each piece is a leaf, usually a different shade of color than the fruit itself. Once Leon devours that fruit, his skin changes to the leaf's color, and he can't proceed unless he finds a similarly colored fruit to eat. So if you munch a green pear with a red leaf, you'll turn red and need to track down a strawberry to move on.
We love the game because Leon's easy to maneuver. You simply tap points on the screen to get Leon to move to that location, then press down and draw a line to the fruit you want to eat. At first, you'll need to get used to the controls, as you'll accidentally use a camera button (to look at the map) rather than moving him. Once you play for a little while, though, you'll get used to it.
Super Yum Yum 3 also comes with a cool rhythm-based mini-game where Leon kicks his children into fruit and they consume it from the inside out. Normally, we'd tell you to never abuse children, but with this game, we'll make an exception.
With four worlds to explore, Super Yum Yum 3 will take you at least eight hours to complete. The only downside is, as we said, the cute overload. The visuals look bright and chipper, and the most dangerous thing you'll come across is Ms. Tum Tum, with her bright red lips and puffy blue cheeks; yep, she's cute beyond belief. Even the audio makes us cringe, as Leon goes around saying cheesy phrases ("Yum yum!").
If you can stomach the cute (and there's a lot of it), Super Yum Yum 3 is an entertaining iPhone app that packs a satisfying amount of depth and the always entertaining kid-kicking mini-game. Drop three bucks and indulge.
