Knights Onrush Review

Terrific touch-screen gameplay, delightful (and gory) visuals, great music, online leaderboards and chat, 12 different castles and a variety of devastating attacks, costs $3.
Might be a little too bloody for players with weak stomachs.
Chillingo struck gold with iDracula, a stylish shooter that's one of the iPhone's best games. Now it's back with Knights Onrush, a strategy game with a humorous touch.
In Knights Onrush, you defend one of 12 castles from an onslaught of enemies, including knights, magicians and other ne'er do wells. To do this, you pick your poison from a variety of weapons or traps, drag them to specific points on or around the enemy and watch the devastating results. There are a number of ways to get rid of bad guys, such as setting them ablaze, freezing them with cannonballs, squashing them with giant Roman columns or using a dragon to scoop them up. Most of these methods result in bloody executions, so if you have a queasy stomach, you've been warned. It's all in good fun, though. Think Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when the Black Knight gets chopped to pieces, only to keep coming back for more. ("Have at you!")
What's great about Knights Onrush is how you're rewarded for destroying these enemies. You can use the points you earn to buy even bigger power-ups and tower defense tools. You'll need every ounce of energy, as the onslaught of evildoers becomes bigger with each new stage.
Developer MoreGames Entertainment did an awesome job with the game's presentation. The music is upbeat and wonderful, with medieval inspired tunes to jam to. The sound effects are equally cute, in a "let's destroy everything" kind of way.
Where the developer really deserves praise, however, is with the visuals. The animations look superb, right down to when a knight explodes in a bloody mess. We also love the detailed backgrounds that take place in a number of locales, from forests to deserts.
Although it doesn't have direct online versus action, Knights Onrush supports online chat with fellow users, along with scoreboards. This adds a competitive edge to the game, as you can try for the high score. Even if you don't access that feature, however, Onrush remains addictive.
Everyone should experience Knights Onrush. The gameplay is easy to get into yet hard to put down, and the presentation is among the best we've seen on the iPhone. For three bucks (yes, only three bucks), you'd be an idiot to turn it down.
