Hanoi Plus Review

Challenging puzzles, decent looking backgrounds, great touch screen controls, more levels than the free version, costs .99, auto saves whenever you receive a call or text.
Backgrounds aren't crystal clear, no competitive leaderboard.
As much as we want to see shooters and kart racers in the iPhone, puzzle games work best since they don't tax the phone's processing muscle and usually have superior touch screen controls. Case in point, Hanoi Plus, a simple looking and challenging puzzler that'll leave you a head scratching mess.
Like most puzzle games (we know you've heard this before), the object is simple. Developer Ian Marsh presents you with a stack of plates, and it's your job to move them from one side of the screen to the next, which is of course not as easy as it sounds. In order to move on to the next stage, you must stack them from largest (on the bottom) to smallest. To do this, simply touch the iPhone's screen (the game automatically selects the smallest plate on a stack) and move it to one of three locations. If, however, you attempt to put a big plate on a smaller one, the phone will buzz and you'll be unable to complete the move.
Hanoi Plus is easy when you have three plates and becomes maddening when you have five to 10. And just to rub in how much you suck, Marsh lists the number of moves it should take to complete the puzzle on the bottom of the screen and tracks how many it takes you.
That's basically all there is to it. Marsh spruces things up with attractive albeit blurry backgrounds, and you won't find any music or the ability to post fastest times to an online leaderboard. It's just you and your stack of plates.
Hanoi Plus is one of the iPhone's more cerebral puzzle games and a worthwhile pickup at .99. However, if you'd rather save your pennies, you can opt for a free version (simply called Hanoi), which has less boards and no move counter.
