Infinite Warrior iPad Review
Infinite Warrior is Empty Flask Games' take on the endless running craze, except this title moves much slower than the competition, and lets you carve up bad guys with a sword. It's a fun but flawed experience, one that would benefit from some updates down the line.
Each time you play, the goal is twofold: make it as far as possible, and slaughter countless enemies along the way. With the hero slowly (and we mean slowly) walking across the battlefield, your job is to quickly swipe in a specified direction, be it up, down, left or right. Do this successfully, and the warrior kills the poor sap that corresponds to one of those aforementioned directions. Screw up, and the character dies, forcing you to restart from the beginning. This is essentially the gist of your involvement, outside of tapping treasure in the distance to add more coins to the virtual bank account, or harassing crows flying overhead. Then, when you die (and you will croak eventually), you can purchase new swords, shields and armor at the shop, thereby imbuing the warrior with various perks.
Naturally, the game becomes faster, and it isn't long before you must enter two or more directions within mere seconds of each other. Sort of reminds us of Infinity Blade mixed with Temple Run and Dance Dance Revolution, minus the giant mat on the floor.
With this in mind, and while Infinite Warrior has its moments, the game is kind of drab. The fact that the hero plods along doesn't keep us awake during the wee hours, while constantly repurchasing weapons and equipment (everything is single use only) is a huge letdown. There's also a matter of inconsistent swipes, where you'll swear you slid right, only to watch helplessly as the character gets taken down.
Ultimately, the more we play Infinite Warrior, the more bothersome these flaws become. It's a good game, but with some tweaking, Empty Flask could transform it into a great one. That said, it'll be interesting to see how it evolves over time, but for now, it provides a few sword-slashing thrills.
What's Hot: Endless number of baddies to slaughter, fun kill animations, a variety of weapons and gear to buy, new lands to discover, leaderboards.
What's Not: Too slow, equipment is one use only, unresponsive controls.
