Fruit Roll iPhone Review
Fruit Roll is by far one of the silliest games we've seen on the App Store. It's also super addictive, the type of experience that first appears to be stupid and not worth even five minutes of your time. Then, all of a sudden, an hour goes by. Then two, then three, and by the fourth, you have a serious problem.
The object is to guide a constantly rolling piece of fruit downhill, jumping over enemies or smashing into them, depending on the color.
It works like this. Red Star Fruit defeats red frogs, A Yellow Lemon squashes yellow worms, a Purple Grape kills purple flying squirrels and a Brown Durin beats monkeys.
To succeed, you must watch for these enemies and then instantly switch to the corresponding fruit on the fly, or at the very least, jump over them; the developers even threw creatures you cannot touch into the mix, like snakes, mummies and yetis.
At the same time, you must collect as many stars as possible and keep yourself in play. Touch something that doesn't match the currently selected color, and the game ends. Then you can view all the stats (score, distance traveled, number of monsters killed) and post to the online leaderboards.
Goofy? No question, but it's oddly enjoyable and the type of game you can play anywhere. We just wish it was universal, as having to pay extra for the HD version seems ridiculous given the lack of options.
That said, although Fruit Roll won't make much noise, it's a fun distraction that may consume your life, at least for a weekend.
