Peggle: Dual Shot Review

Incredibly addictive gameplay, bonus modes designed by Q Entertainment, comes with both Peggle and Peggle Nights, cool multiplayer mode.

Peggle already rules our lives. We play it on the PC and the iMac, and soon we'll have the opportunity to take it anywhere on our iPhones. Since that apparently wasn't enough, PopCap Games took the addiction to Nintendo DS in a new game featuring all the things you know and love about the ball-bouncing puzzler, along with a number of extras. Peggle: Dual Shot is beyond addictive, and you probably won't play anything else in your system for some time.
Let's explain how Peggle works. Each stage consists of a number of pegs. Most of them are typically blue, but the ones you want to aim for are orange. Your goal is to eliminate all the orange pegs from the playfield, and you only have a certain amount of balls (10 or so) to do it. In addition, there are purple pegs that enhance your score, along with new yellow pegs. Hitting these special items activate bonus zones, where you bounce a ball around with bumpers and collect stars.
To further enhance the action, each stage has a specific animal assistant with special abilities. You activate them by hitting one of two green pegs on each stage. These specialties vary, from activating a "spooky ball" that gives you another turn to taking a spin on a special prize wheel. If for some reason you run across a stage where you can't clear all the specific pegs with all the balls, you'll be able to retry with only a slight deduction in score.
Best of all, Peggle: Dual Shot has no shortage of action. The Master stages are the Holy Grail of the game, but there's more. The original Peggle is included, along with the new Peggle Nights expansion. All the stages and power-ups are accounted for, and they're worth going through. In addition, you can compete against a friend through system pass-around or download play, challenging them through high scoring rounds. It would've been nice to have an online leaderboard to compare with the rest of the world, but that's a minor nitpick.
Peggle: Dual Shot is the ideal game to take on a vacation or long road trip, as it'll pass the time and leave you smiling. Pick it up and go Peggle crazy.
