Blueprint 3D iPhone Review
Blueprint 3D was built on a phenomenal idea for a puzzle game, executed to perfection.
Developed by FDG Entertainment, this imaginative and rewarding title challenges you to carefully manipulate a cluttered mess of chaotic dots and lines into a flat 2D image, or blueprint.
You do this by rotating the various shapes around a 3D space, using words and barely identifiable objects as clues. The faster you solve the puzzle, the more stars you'll earn that go towards unlocking seven chapters (Hightech, Architecture, Medieval, Electronics, Space, Military, Transport) that account for more than 240 stages.
What's especially cool about Blueprint 3D is the natural high one experiences the second he or she stumbles upon that "aha" moment, right when things suddenly come together. There's something wonderful about taking a bunch of stuff and transforming it into the Statue of Liberty or Eiffel Tower. It's even better if you collect all three stars and/or unlock achievements via Game Center while doing this.
Thankfully, the controls never get in the way, and the option to play your own music (as opposed to listening to the decent in-game soundtrack) is a nice touch.
Meanwhile, the graphics look sharp on both the iPhone and iPad, though the visuals don't necessarily push either device. It is just a bunch of blueprints, after all.
All told, Blueprint 3D is one of the most creative and thoroughly entertaining apps we've had the pleasure of experiencing. It's smartly designed, attractive and fun, as well as a showpiece for anyone on the fence about purchasing an "i" device. Bravo.
