/ ESCAPE \ iPad Review
/ ESCAPE \ reminds us of several iOS games that have come out over the years, where players guide a character up the screen, the goal to see how far he or she can climb before getting killed.
Where this title separates itself from the competition is the fact that A.) the little ninja cannot cling to walls, and B.) there's a giant laser beam giving chase.
This bumps up the intensity tenfold. Not only must you steer clear of that hazard, but also electrified spikes strategically placed along both sides of the screen. As expected, timing is key, as you climb as quickly and carefully as possible, judging the distances between spikes and landing (safely) on the spaces in between, but also moving with a purpose, lest the ninja get zapped.
Have to admit, the game's super addictive. / ESCAPE \ has that "just one more try" appeal that'll keep us hooked for well over an hour at a time, but we can still get our daily fix in just a couple of minutes.
On top of that, publisher Kongregate lets you earn badges, so long as you have an account and, you know, get a high score.
/ ESCAPE \ comes up short, however, with its lack of online leaderboards, which is quite baffling, given the fact that most games these days (at least on iOS) come with Game Center support.
That ultimately knocks / ESCAPE \ down a peg. Otherwise, it's a fun and action packed romp with plenty of thrills. Leaderboard or no, it's still worth a buck.
