Colossatron: Massive World Threat- Cheats And Tips | Review

Halfbrick, the studio that brought us the immensely entertaining Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, ended 2013 on a high note with the release of Colossatron: Massive World Threat. This mobile game isn't what it seems at first glance, relying more on building an enormous beast, rather than controlling it directly. However, that certainly doesn't get in the way of the game's destructive fun.

The Good

With its alternate gameplay approach, Colossatron is a blast. Putting together Powercores in the right manner is pivotal to success, as you form better weapons to trash Colonel Mustache's growing forces. The touch-and-drag gameplay works very well, and being able to unlock additional abilities for the beast is nice, such as a charging attack that's fun to unleash. The presentation is also terrific, with no shortage of destruction and humorous little newscasts that add personality to the overall product. Finally, there's a lot of great power-ups to unlock, although you may need to pay a little extra to get there.

The Bad

Colossatron seems misleading at first, appearing to be an overhead action game when in fact it's built more on defensive strategy. This may turn off potential players expecting a full-blown action romp. In addition, some of the stages are extremely difficult, which means you'll either need to spend money on prisms to upgrade to better weaponry or spend a couple to simply skip the stage in a powerhouse explosion. Halfbrick needs to balance the difficulty.

The Verdict

If it had a lower difficulty and an easier way to acquire power-ups, Colossatron would be an instant classic alongside Halfbrick's other releases. For now, it's still a monstrously good time, and a novel way to let loose on some of that built-up holiday stress.
