Cube (PSP) Preview

Have you ever sat around longing for a puzzle game? Perhaps just looking for a casual game for that dusty PSP of yours? Well the wait might soon be over. D3, the beloved publisher of such games as Earth Defense Force 2017 and Puzzle Quest, is trying its hand again at the puzzle game market with its upcoming release, Cube.

Cube places you at the hands of, what else, a cube. You guide your cube through a series of three-dimensional levels trying to gather keys to unlock the end goal. Oh yeah, and it's timed. However, while the basic concept of the game might sound, well, basic, the game looks to have much more to offer.

On top of having to just reach the end goal of the levels, Cube will also place the player against any number of situations that will impede their progress. Bombs and other objects which will harm your poor little cube, and they'll serve to make the game more strategy than simply wandering around. And if this doesn't serve up a big enough dose of strategy and replayability, then players can always challenge themselves by trying to beat their best times.

Cube has 135 single player missions and over thirty missions that you can play with your friends. These levels are only available though if you both have the UMD and in ad hoc mode. If your buddies do not have the game then you can share a few levels of Cube goodness with them through the game-share ability.

If the 135 levels of puzzle action is not enough to satiate your puzzle craving soul, then Cube has an additional feature of interest. Cube has a level creator built into the game. Now players will have the chance to make many more levels of infinite difficulty and frustration.
