Pokemon Trozei Preview

The latest Pokemon title looks to be miles ahead of Dash, that's for sure.
March is already looking like a solid month for Nintendo with the forthcoming release of Tetris DS, which is bound to cause quite a frenzy with the puzzle crowd upon its release. But there's another game that's coming about within a matter of days that should get an equal amount of attention, especially from hardcore Pokemon fans.
Pokemon Trozei looks to be everything that the previous release Pokemon Dash wasn't- fun. Instead of trying to scatter playable Pokemon across a racing circuit, the game instead simply focuses on a puzzle pattern that's very easy to learn, but incredibly hard to put down.
The goal of the game is to form "trozei"- lines of four on a playfield of similar figures. You're given a large playfield with several familiar Pokemon faces, and it's your job to move them around into the "trozei" lines to eliminate them. You can move around the Pokemon by moving them horizontally and vertically, but you'll have to work quickly, especially in the later stages as the difficulty picks up.
The game will have two single-player modes that you can do, either timed or unlimited, and also will have multiplayer modes available, where you can play against another player. There's also a neat little collectible item for Pokemon fans out there, with over 380 Pokemon waiting to be collected and added to your list. You can earn a few in single player mode, but better opportunities come around in multiplayer, with a few more able to be snagged along the way...all without having to drag around some Pokeballs.
We had some hands-on time with the game and it's shaping up to be rather addictive. Its formula isn't exactly the most original out there, but, paired with the Pokemon license, it looks to be a rather effective combination. We'll be back with a full review of the title later on this month as its release inches that much closer. But there's a good feeling around the office that it's bound to wash away the painful memories of Dash. Justin, you can put down the Psyduck doll, no need for brainwashing. Um...Justin? Oops, too late.
Oh, well, time to "casually" ask him for a DS Lite, I guess.
