The Drowning Revealed For iPhone And iPad, Due To Release Early 2013
DeNA is known for quite a few things, except first-person shooters. That'll change in 2013, as the company will publish The Drowning on iPhone and iPad, in partnership with Scattered Entertainment.
"We've been at the forefront of innovation in free-to-play mobile games since the beginning, and we're changing the definition of the space once again with The Drowning," said Clive Downie, CEO at DeNA's U.S. subsidiary, ngmoco. "We can't wait to give players a quality, hardcore FPS experience for their mobile devices."
Set within a post apocalyptic future, The Drowning takes place in a world consumed by a mysterious black sludge. First, birds fall from the sky. Then, humans turn into vicious monsters. Over time, players will unravel bits of the story while killing these creatures with an assortment of weapons. A new control scheme will transform a person's fingers into the iron sights of a gun, while the development team ditched dual analog sticks for a more point-to-move system.
"Scattered Entertainment's vision is to bring the type of deep, high-quality and immersive games normally only experienced on PC and consoles, to the convenient, powerful modern mobile device," said Ben Cousins, general manager of Scattered Entertainment and head of DeNA's European studio operations. "The Drowning combines the play-patterns and touch-screen specific control systems expected of tablet and smartphone games with unmatched console-quality graphics, innovative skill-based gameplay and a rich, expansive fictional world."
Looks cool so far. Now we just need to get our hands on The Drowning sooner than later.
