Battlefield 3 Aftershock Preserves Freedom On iPhone, iPad

Battlefield 3 is without question one of the year's most hotly anticipated video games, so it made perfect sense for Electronic Arts to create a mobile edition. Thus, we have Battlefield 3 Aftershock, slated to hit iPhone and iPad this winter.

Like its console counterpart, the game is a first person shooter that features online play, sans vehicles. In this case, EA hopes to achieve up to ten players per match, with detailed stat tracking through the company's Origin service.

In addition, this title will come with four character classes, along with 50 customizable weapons.

As for single player, here's where things get dicey. Instead of creating a story driven single player campaign, the publisher chose to design a survival mode of sorts where players blast their way through 150 waves of evildoers, disappointing, to say the least.

That said, we'll have to wait and see if Aftershock has what it takes to stand side by side with the Xbox 360 and PS3 Battlefield 3 in the months ahead.
