The Game Bakers Takes A Swing At iOS And Android With Combo Crew

Apparently, The Game Bakers cannot live on SQUIDS and SQUIDS Wild West alone. Hungry to make another impact on iOS and Android gaming, the independent studio just unveiled Combo Crew, an upcoming beat-em-up set to debut this spring.

Featuring 2D graphics and a nod to those entertaining brawlers from the 80s and 90s, the game puts players in control of a team of heroes charged with ascending a tower while at the same time pummeling a variety of evildoers along the way. Whenever one character falls in combat, another takes his or her place, and with cross-platform, asynchronous multiplayer, friends have the chance to revive each other.

"With Combo Crew, we wanted to bring back the spirit of the old console beat 'em ups -- the ones you used to play on the couch with your buddies -- in a way that makes sense on modern mobile platforms," says Emeric Thoa, The Game Bakers' creative director. "Games like Street Fighter and Final Fight require a d-pad controller, and that just doesn't make sense for touch devices. So we challenged ourselves to make a brawler with really good touch controls. And we're pretty sure we've pulled it off!"

While on the subject of controls, the game appears easy enough. Swiping the screen attacks, tapping it counters and a two-finger swipe unleashes a powerful combo. That said, watch the debut footage below and get ready for more info on Combo Crew in the weeks ahead.
