Gameloft Updates an Old Children's Classic for the Mobile Platform

Gameloft, in partnership with The Learning Company, has just announced the launch of its update of the PC classic, The Oregon Trail. This release marks the first time an educational PC-based game has been ported to another platform for a commercial release.
The update features modernized graphics along with new minigames and added event scenarios to spice up the experience while still staying true to the spirit of the original.
"The Oregon Trail is an iconic game that has been enjoyed by parents and students alike over the decades," explains Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president of Publishing, Gameloft. "The Oregon Trail has always provided an ideal way for players to recount an important part of American history, and we are confident that the new mobile version will capture the exciting journey for today's tech savvy audience."
Pretty much any kid who grew up in the early '90s can attest to the in-school popularity of this strangely frank and morbid simulation of 19th century pioneer life. At my school, you were either dodging trogs in Number Munchers, or you were watching your settlers die in The Oregon Trail. It didn't give you the same kind of visceral thrill that most games did, but as something you were allowed to play in class, it seemed like a little taste of heaven in the gloomy recesses of our white-walled purgatory.
Doubt anyone's going to be particularly successful trying to convince their teachers to let them play this during computer class, though.
