Castlevania Rides Again With Order of Ecclesia

Whips but no chains

Funny that with the return of one whip-wielding hero, we'd end up getting another at around the same time.

Konami has announced an all new Castlevania adventure for the DS entitled Order of Ecclesia; featuring a new glyph attack system, players will be able to create over 100 special attack combinations as they work to defeat the stubbornly undying prince of the night himself. For the first time in a while, the series will also take players outside Dracula's castle and into the forests and even oceans surrounding it -- with the total number of environments pegged at about 20 so far.

"We have always felt that the Castlevania franchise has been an excellent fit on Nintendo DS, and based on the popularity of the DS classics, Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, our fans agree," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "We fully expect Order of Ecclesia to ignite the fan base once again as it combines the classic Castlevania gameplay with an all-new combat system and outdoor environments."

Wi-fi compatibility is also included for the first time, and players can not only trade items with one another but compete head-to-head as well.

Add in multiple endings, and this is sounding like one of the more unique Castlevania experiences to come around in a long time.

The game is scheduled for a fall 2008 release, so the wait won't be too agonizing at least.
