Nintendo Announces Calligraphy Teaching Tool (Import)

Feed your inner weeaboo.

Scheduled for release on March 13 in Japan only, "Calligraphy Training DS " is a family friendly game designed to help people correct and fine tune their Japanese calligraphy. It will ship with a specially designed brush stylus.

The game will look for deviations from the example character in areas of length and angle and will also instruct you on how to clean up edges and other areas by providing the appropriate commentary. In other words, it'll let you know when you're writing like a five-year-old with downs.

Also featured, interestingly enough, is a multiplayer mode for up to six people where friends and family can compete with one another to see who can draw the cleanest, most accurate-looking characters.

There appears to be some kind of story mode as well, where you guide a lone wanderer in his quest to complete 3099 different characters.

I knew we'd see something like this the second a touch screen for the DS was announced. This game was actually on Nintendo's release list at Nintendo World, but it just kind of floundered around until now. Can't see there being too much demand for this sort of thing over here, but if you're an import gamer, you've got an interest in learning Japanese/calligraphy, or you just want a really bitchin' stylus, then you might wanna give this a look.

Check out some demo videos of the game on the official site
