Sony will be releasing a trio of PSP products for Japan in the spring.
The most fascinating of which is the PSP Cradle. This new accessory allows you to watch videos while also providing a charging dock for the PSP at the same time. It even comes with a remote (for those extremely farsighted or lazy people I assumed). The Cradle is for the PSP Slim only and retails for 4,800 yen.
Alternatively, you could buy the Cradle & D Terminal AV Cable pack, which includes a cable to output your games and videos on the television screen. The pack retails for 6,500 yen. Both Cradle SKUs will be released on the 24th of April.
Another new accessory is the PSP Microphone. The microphone is compatible with both the fat PSP and the slim one. However, Skype is only available on the PSP Slim, meaning fat PSP users won't have any use for the accessory. Early adopters got screwed once again. After a short delay, the PSP Microphone will be out on March 19th in two SKUs: single pack for 2,500 yen and double pack for 4,000 yen. The release will coincide with the introduction of Skype for the Japanese PSP.
Finally, Sony has another PSP color up their sleeves. This time the color is Matte Bronze. The PSP Matte Bronze Value Pack will include a pouch, cloth, 32Mb Memory Stick Duo and D Terminal AV cable in addition to the standard PSP offerings. The PSP Matte Bronze Value Pack will be released in limited quantities on April 24th for 23,800 yen. Not a bad way to upgrade to a PSP Slim for gypped owners of the original model. You could probably guess which category I fall into.
The new color is extremely unlikely to be released in North America. No word on a possible release for the two new accessories in North America but they have a higher chance in crossing the pond. If you are impatient, you can import the product from Japan since the PSP is region free.
