GDC 2008: Video Games Live Brings in Special Guests

High culture meets game culture.
Video Games Live!, the world's premiere videogame-based orchestral concert, will be bringing in some big names for the GDC this year. It's the brain-child of composers Jack Wall Tommy Tallarico -- who's also somewhat infamous for being a controversial reviewer on the Electric Playground program -- and features symphonic versions of songs from games of all different genres and platforms.
The guest list for this year includes:
-Blizzard composers Russell Brower and Jason Hayes, Crysis composer Inon Zur, the mastermind behind The Great Giana Sisters theme, Chris Huelsbeck, BioShock composer Garry Schyman and over 25 other designers and composers from franchises like Halo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Myst, Kingdom Hearts, Metroid Prime, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero, Gears of War and Sonic.
-Film composer, John Debney, who'll be conducting some of his work from Lair.
-The father of videogames, and developer of the first game console, Ralph Baer. Contrary to popular belief, Pong likely wasn't the first modern videogame, as it was actually a copy of one of Baer's games, Table Tennis.
Keep an eye out in the pre-show for an acoustic performance by Mario Opera creator Jonathon Mann, as well as a costume contest and a Space Invaders competition (among others).
