Making fun of the apocalypse.
A tournament of sorts was held at a recent launch event for the highly anticipated strategy game, and dozens of fans crowded into the New York Nintendo World store for a chance to play it before it hit the shelves. The event showcased the game's new Wi-Fi multiplayer mode that allows for two to four players to fight it out in over 150 pre-made maps or any number of user-created ones.
"Days of Ruin is much more than just a new chapter in the Advance Wars series," says Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Our core gamers continue to buzz about the game's post-apocalyptic storyline, new characters and stylized graphics that bring a totally fresh experience to the series. The focus on strategy beyond raw firepower makes it more rewarding than typical war games."
For those not in the know, the plot is considerably darker than that of past games and can be summed up thusly: What killed the dinosaurs? Well, the same thing that kills humanity, apparently. The Earth gets a couple space rocks in the face, and most of the planet's population is destroyed, leaving survivors with a dead, dark world (since the sun's been blotted out by dust clouds bigger than the combined cast of Celebrity Fit Club).
The game came out on the 21st, so think of this as a final reminder to get off your ass, and go get it.
