Konami Confirms Silent Hill Origins Port to Playstation 2

The hills are eyeing a PS2 release...

After rampant rumors and speculations, Konami has finally confirmed a Playstation 2 port of Silent Hill Origins.

Released in November of last year, Silent Hill Origins was the first game in the series to be outsourced to an external developer. Instead of Konami's Team Silent, Climax Studios took the honor of developing a prequel to the renowned survival horror series. The game garnered in some generally positive reviews from critics (including Modojo's Chris Goldberg) even with the change of developers.

"Console gamers can now expect the same chilling, suspenseful and fear-filled experience that handheld gamers encountered when we released Silent Hill Origins on the PSP system," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "This is their chance to learn more of the mystery and mythos surrounding Silent Hill that's been hinted at in earlier games and made the series such a success."

Silent Hill Origins will be joining fellow PSP-to-Playstation 2 games like Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Twisted Metal: Head On and the two Grand Theft Auto PSP games. Makes me wonder if Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and God of War: Chains of Olympus is next.

No release date has been announced for the port.
