Activision is the #1 U.S. Console and Handheld Publisher in 2007

Cue Dr. Evil pose

Activision announced today that they were the #1 publisher for console and handheld games in 2007.

Activision-published Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was the overall best selling title in December and for the whole year, according to the independent NPD market research group. The Guitar Hero franchise is paying dividends for Activision as it was also the best selling franchise of 2007.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, another Activision-published title, was the third best selling title overall in December. In total, Activision's market share for 2007 is a record 17.7%, a 7.2% increased from last year.

Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc., commented, "For the first time in our history, we were the #1 U.S. publisher for the calendar year. We are well on our way to delivering sixteen years of record revenue growth and by far our most profitable year ever."

We already saw a handheld installment of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Nintendo DS, will Activision also bring its musical sensation to the handhelds?
