Nintendo Systems Account for 52% of Video Game Hardware Sold in 2007

Nintendo announced today their NPD sales result for 2007. As expected, Nintendo completely obliterated the competition in sales.
The Nintendo DS was the top-selling video game system once again in with an impressive 8.5 million units sold, more than 4 million of which came from the holiday months of November and December. Overall, sales for the Nintendo DS increased 60% from last year.
The Nintendo Wii wasn't too shabby, either. It managed to sell 6.3 million units for the year with 2.3 million of the total being sold in the final two months of 2007. Good enough for second place. Not bad for a system that has been supply-constrained since launch.
With both the DS and Wii, Nintendo accounted for 52% of all video game hardware sold in 2007. It's kind of scary to think what the numbers would be if Nintendo actually shipped more units to meet the demand of consumers.
Nintendo was equally dominant with video game software sales accounting for half of the top 30 best selling games in 2007 with games like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and Mario Party DS.
On the handheld side, Nintendo accounted for 27 of the top 30 best-selling games of the year with 25 of those being Nintendo DS titles and 2 of those being Game Boy Advance titles. Ouch for Sony.
In 2007, the video game industry grew 43% from the previous year; 60% of which was with the help of Nintendo.
