Digital Chocolate announced today the launch of its casual game line DChoc Cafe. The line of titles blend casual gameplay with social networking elements, in an effort to "virally drive new users to mobile gaming."
"The introduction of the DChoc Cafe Series combines the trend of casual games with a community environment that promotes social interaction," Trip Hawkins, founder and CEO of Digital Chocolate said in a statement. "The DChoc Cafe Series demonstrates the promise of mobile games: socially driven entertainment that allows players to stay connected with friends while playing fun, casual games.""
Players are given the opportunity to create a custom avatar, form exclusive "cafes" just for their friends, and earn points through gameplay to upgrade their cafes. Gamers are also encouraged to compete for high scores against other players, but also on a cafe vs. cafe level.
The first five games implemented in the company's Cafe system are Sudoku, Kakuro, Hold'em Poker, Solitaire, and Mahjong, with each title given the "Dchoc Cafe' moniker. Digital Chocolate promises that more titles will be added over time.
Each title is purchased separately, but exists as a part of the "cafe" ecosystem. Cross-selling functionality with allows the other games to be purchased from within any Dchoc Cafe title. In support of the line, Digital Chocolate has launched http://www.dchoccafe.com, where consumers can play free trials of the games, invite their friends, and download phone demos.
The games are available in the US on AT&T and T-Mobile, with Alltel, N-Gage, Sony Ericsson, & Sprint, support expected in the coming weeks.
