The big winner was the mobile multiplayer, GPS-enabled Triangler, coming away with both the $15,000 Grand Prix award, and the $5,000 Most Innovative Game prize. It was developed by TNO, the largest research institute in the Netherlands, which houses over 4000 professionals in a variety of disciplines.
This year's slate of nominees and winners highlighted the emergence of social mobile games, which are often part social network, part videogame.
"15 out of the 25 finalists demonstrated a growing trend of developing social connected gaming experiences and entirely new genres, proving that the future of mobile gaming will be about connecting gamers to other gamers for a multi-dimensional mobile gaming experience," Kamar Shah, Global Head of Industry Marketing, Multimedia Experiences, Nokia said in a statement. "Congratulations to TNO who has created a new benchmark for the next twelve months in terms of innovation and gameplay."
In addition to the cash prizes, each of the winners will be supported by the IMGA's sponsors to help bring the game to market, if it is not yet commercially available.
