New Media: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

Live as a Pokemon in these two handheld RPGs

Nintendo released a few new screenshots today of forthcoming Pokemon RPGs from Chunsoft. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon will be a multi-release title, much like every other portable Pokemon game, with the Blue Rescue Team version appearing on the DS, while the Red Rescue Team hits the GBA.

The most unique thing about this title is that players will actually assume the role of a Pokemon, speaking and interacting with others in a world populated only by Pokemon.

The story tells of the main character awakening one day to find themselves mysteriously turned into a Pokemon. With the land suddenly struck with disaster, the player forms a rescue team to set out and help any other Pokemon caught in trouble.

The game plays out by missions, where players accept various tasks to rescue Pokemon. Upon entering one of the many randomly generated dungeons, players must strategically make their way through with the aid of their Pokemon partner.

Both the DS and GBA versions will see a North American release of September 18. As always, we'll have a full report of both games when they drop.
