In a new interview at Nintendo of Europe's official site, available only to VIP members, famed game designer and the father of Mario revealed many new details about the forthcoming New Super Mario Bros. The majority of the interview focused around The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Miyamoto confirmed Revolution-exclusive control), but that didn't stop NoE from probing him about Mario's upcoming 2D adventure.
When asked about the game's storyline, Miyamoto confirmed the usual - Princess Peach has been captured - but then casually mentioned that the Koopa Kids would be returning, as well.
"Peach is kidnapped, Mario has to go and rescue her from Bowser and the Koopa Kids," Miyamoto said.
So does this mean we can expect a Super Mario Bros. 3-style world-fortress-boss setup?
"Unfortunately I am not in a position to tell you anything further, sorry, but basically yes you are right... we want to evoke a kind of nostalgic feeling in those people who used to play with the past series, so we are now trying to incorporate as many old tricks and tweaks as possible into this new DS version," Miyamoto responded.
Miyamoto also revealed that all of Super Mario 64 DS' minigames would be included in New Super Mario Bros., but in many of them Mario and Luigi can play and compete via single cart multiplayer. He also confirmed that some will have 4P single-cart multi.
New Super Mario Bros. will debut at retail on May 7 in the US, and is slated for a May 30 release in Japan
