Feb. NPD: Handhelds Keep Game Industry Afloat

The PSP continued to close the DS' lead, but both handhelds were big February winners...

NPD late last week released its latest Funworld TRSTS data, and the picture wasn't pretty. Total software sales were down 5%, with total current-gen console software down an eyebrow-raising 35%.

Handheld sales balanced out the console dip, however, and we were up 36%, thanks in large part to the sustained performance of Liberty Citty Stories and to a lesser extend Animal Crossing: Wild World and Mario Kart DS.
