New Media: Tetris DS

3 new movies from Nintendo

As you may've already noticed, we here at Modojo have really started to take a shine to Nintendo's forthcoming classic reiteration, Tetris DS. And courtesy of the Big N, we can finally show you some of the onscreen magic with 3 newly released videos.

Each one shows off a different gameplay mode, with the first being Standard Mode, and as the name implies, it is essentially standard Tetris fare where you organize colorful blocks as they fall from the top of the screen. But of course, seeing as this is a Nintendo title, we also get a hint of Mario in there, who will gradually make his way through a classic Super Mario level on the top screen -- his progress tied into yours -- and eventually save the Princess upon completion. Up to 10 players will be able to battle it out in this setting.

In Touch Mode, the second movie, we see standard Tetris gameplay but with a unique DS twist, and as you can probably already guess from the name, you'll move the blocks around the screen using the stylus.

The final movie gives us a glimpse of Push Mode, which is described as somewhat of a battle mode, or tug-of-war, and will have players going up against the computer or another player (either wirelessly of through Wi-Fi Connection) where the goal is to push the opposition to the top.

And so there you have it; you're first taste of Tetris DS action. The free demo will be available to download at participating North American retailers next month, and the full game is scheduled to hit on March 30.
