Nintendo Reveals Mario Kart Sales & Online Usage

So just how many people are getting their online Kart on?

Nintendo of America announced recently that Mario Kart DS is (at the surprise of no one) seeing significant sales success. Slightly more surprising was the news that a very high percentage of gamers were indeed trying out Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection to race online.

Shipped on Monday, November 14, NoA revealed that by the following Sunday more than 112,000 copies of the game had been sold. That same week, 52,000 unique users had logged on to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, or about 45 percent of owners.

It's worth noting that Nintendo has insisted from the beginning that their "goal" for online Mario Kart usage was nothing short of 90-100 percent. Modojo believes that this goal was more of an illustration of how easy and accessible (and free) Nintendo wanted to make their online service, when compared to Sony and Microsoft's online offerings, as opposed to an official corporate estimate.

For comparison, 18 percent of Halo 2 owners had gotten online with the game in its first three weeks.
