Xanadu Next N-Gage Interview

Latest details and screens on the upcoming handheld RPG

Xanadu Next is an action-RPG dungeon crawler currently in development by Falcom for Nokia's N-Gage handheld system. Based off the popular PC role-playing game, the title is slated for a June 14 release across North America. N-Gage.com has just put up an interview they conducted with the game's producer Shinya Yamada, who also showed off a few new screenshots.

Q: Rumor has it the Xanadu franchise has some serious history to it. Mind sharing some background on it?
A: That's true! The original PC game was released in Japan nearly 20 years ago. Xanadu Next is an all-new, action-oriented, role-playing title based on the famous brand. It's really an exciting development.

Q: Why should N-Gage owners be drooling over the prospect of laying hands on the series' latest installment?
A: Because Xanadu Next is a completely original take on one of the first truly classic role-playing games ever released. It features all the exciting elements and hardcore action that have made the Xanadu name so respected amongst the gaming community. Expect great atmospheric effects and an awesome magic system too.

Q: From initial appearances, the game seems to be played from a pulled-back, third-person perspective. How does the camera system work: does the player control the viewpoint or is it set in stone?
A: Actually, there are multiple camera angles that you'll experience. Which perspective you see depends entirely on which area of the map you are currently situated at.

However, these angles are all predetermined by design. There's a very good reason for this: they are set up to showcase settings from the best possible perspective, so you'll be able to enjoy the environments we've created that much more.
