Mario Kart DS confirmed for 8P online play...
According to video game magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, the Nintendo DS will go online through a partnership with GameSpy. Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata has announced the first details regarding the company's plan to take the DS online through a wireless multiplayer network, promising a simplified setup along with a seamless experience for its users.
The service will be free of charge, and available all around the world through wireless internet hotspots. Iwata also mentioned that developers implementing short-range wireless features in their games should have no problems expanding said projects to include wireless Internet play. It has been reported that GameSpy will issue software development kits to a variety of developers some time before this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in May.
The first two DS titles that have been confirmed to contain wireless Internet play are Animal Crossing DS and Mario Kart DS. Specific details on each game's wireless multiplayer features have not yet been outlined. Both titles are scheduled for a tentative fall release in North America.
