Did the change in viewpoint help or hurt this PSP side-story?
Read the Modojo ReviewSeemingly well aware that first person shooters should be left on full-sized consoles and PCs, the developers of this game departed from the gameplay of the original (and forgetable) Killzone and produced a slick little overhead shooter more suited to a handheld system. This game got a lot of good press when it came out (2 years ago) and it still does - it's a pretty fun game for the most part. However, after the first level or two it's quite obvious that this game is also fairly shallow. Beneath a veneer of "tactics" the game essentially consists of running about, locating enemies, ducking for cover, lobbing a grenade or two, and shooting, which is fine but it doesn't hold everybody's attention for long. The controls are decent but clunky enough to get irritating at various times (especially aiming and up-close fighting). There is a rudimentary buddy command system but the AI of teamates is good enough that you don't really have to access it much. Levels are pretty much linear garden paths, but refreshingly enemy AI isn't totally idiotic. The game is quite difficult but mostly because of the cheap ways of getting killed. A downloadable patch offers a new 'episode' of levels and full multiplayer over infrastructure mode, the latter of which is one of this game's saving graces - multiplayer is certainly fun but like the single player mode gets tedious after a while. Overall a decent game but not a must-buy.
