Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

If you crave something on the weird side, keep an eye on Capcom's Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, available for DS this winter. Designed by Shu Takumi, original creator of the Ace Attorney series, this imaginative puzzle game tasks you with preventing crimes before they happen, sort of like Minority Report. Except instead of playing as a futuristic police officer, you're a ghost.

In the game, you're Sissel, a murder victim with the power to manipulate objects within the real world. It's your job to save people's lives by tripping up their would be assassins. At the same time, you must unravel the mystery of his demise, since he doesn't know how he died.

To play, you'll use the stylus to possess an object within the environment, the goal to figure out the best way to avoid the crime. Supposedly, there are a few different ways to solve each puzzle, and you must figure out the best path to take. On the downside, Sissel will leave the supernatural world at dawn, so you don't have a lot of time.

Despite the grim subject matter, Ghost Trick features a somewhat humorous story, so expect some laughs while observing characters. In addition, the game features cheerier visuals than we expected, with stylish cartoon characters and detailed 2-D environments; Dante's Inferno this isn't.

Now we just need a release date. It remains to be seen whether Capcom has struck gold with Ghost Trick, but it appears to be an interesting puzzler that could stand out in a crowded genre. We'll have more info leading up to its release.
