New iPhone And iPad Games February 21, 2013

What's coming out on the App Store this week? What's really worthy of your attention and money? Can anyone stop the juggernaut genre of four-picture guessing games from infecting the charts entirely, like one of those horrific flesh-eating viruses the tabloids like to scare you with from time to time?

Who knows. What we do know is that if variety's the spice of life, the next week's looking spicy indeed. Here are all the biggest games you need to know about.

The Gods: Rebellion

If eye-candy's your thing, Chillingo seem to have you in mind with its new title The Gods: Rebellion. Created with Unreal Engine 3 technology, this action game features expansive landscapes, imaginative giant enemies, and clever combat combos to string together. Those who master the game's seven giant levels have a series of Challenge modes to look forward to as well.

Cyto

If you prefer your games to be a little more sedentary and thoughtful, you might want to check out Chillingo's other new title for this week, Cyto. You'll need to think your way through 80+ levels in order to recover the titular character's memories, and make use of all his abilities to avoid the perilous dangers all around.

Year Walk

Year Walk is currently on sale for $5.49 (New Zealand Dollars), so you should expect to pay around $3.99 when it hits the US App Store later on tonight. Is that money well spent? Well, it certainly looks original from the gameplay trailer, and we're promised it's packed full of cryptic puzzles and mysteries - we're already intrigued by the art-style alone, and we'll be bringing you our review of the game tomorrow.

Turbolab Pursuit

BulkyPix is back with more traditional App Store fare in the form of Turbolab Pursuit. A combination of endless-running with shooting mechanics makes it sound dangerously like Die Hard, but we're optimistic that the game's colorful variety, upgrades and generous collection of weapons should make this one well worth keeping an eye on.

Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno

1

From legendary Japanese developer and publisher Sega comes Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno, described on the App Store as "a crazy action-adventure side-scroller set in Hell." Fair enough. There are 50 levels spread across five different game worlds, and you'll need all your wits about you as you smash your way through scenery and take out anything standing in your way.
