iOS And Android Games Of The Week: February 15, 2013

The weekend is almost here, and downloading games for both iOS and Android should be a top priority. The App Store produced a handful of quality titles to enjoy, while Android had slim pickings, though one particular effort managed to stand out. That said, your wallet will take a slight hit, but if you're a classic gamer, this blast from the past should be a welcome sight.

App Store shoppers interested in stretching their dollars to the max should purchase Chillingo's Rock Runners. For $0.99, players receive more than 140 stages of tricky platforming, but there's more to this game than content. One-touch controls mean just about anyone can leap over obstacles and swing via grapple hook while gathering gems and collectible keys to unlock even more levels. Also, the fact that said obstacle courses last a couple minutes each makes restarting far less annoying, while a slick sci-fi theme complements the package. Not a revolutionary title by any means, but you'll definitely like what the developers at Recoil Games put together.

Android: Alien Breed [Download: Android/iOS]

Team17's 1991 classic finally arrived on Android, and the iOS edition made a successful jump, more or less. The top-down action adventure sends players through a seemingly abandoned vessel teeming with nasty extraterrestrials in need of a beat-down. The port comes with Classic mode if gamers feel nostalgic, but an Enhanced mode benefits from improved graphics and audio. In addition, fans will discover four new levels, along with leaderboards and special edition content. That said, the fact that the game costs $4.99 on Android may damage its chances to climb the paid charts.
