Welcome to the New Mo

Robomo insists that you begin bowing down to Robomo, in anticipation of his return.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the newer, tastier Modojo.com. The site might look the same, but for some time now we've been busy cooking up major changes to how we operate, and doing some pretty deep thinking about what kind of site Modojo should be.

So don't be fooled by appearances - although we aren't launching a new design, what you're going to be reading is a brand new editorial product. Imagine us as a tasty calzone, just with our previous delicious filling replaced with... something more delicious. I'm out of food analogies, but I think you get the idea.

I'll give you the rundown of a little bit of what you can expect. We'll be rolling out these changes over time, to ensure each one is seasoned just right before serving (OK I lied about the analogies).

International Flavor

We'll be doing a lot more to keep you up to date with all the crazy-ass handheld games & gadgets coming out of Japan. And I suppose Europe and Australia too, if anything interesting ever actually happens there.

A More Complete Look at the Handheld Arena

I admit it: Modojo fell into the editorial cycle that many sites fall into after establishing themselves. News, Preview, Interview, Review, Repeat. There's a LOT of cool stuff going on out there, and we're going to be paying a lot more attention to it all. The handheld homebrew scene, emerging portable game mediums, and mobile games that don't suck. And whatever other cool stuff we stumble across.

Remember this guy? Well he remembers YOU. It might be a good time to make your allegiances perfectly clear, if you haven't already.

FACT: Robomo is the cause of global warming. But also of global cooling.

Columns!

No, not the Game Gear puzzler. Although that Columns may well end up the subject of a column...

I don't want to give away all our column plans, mostly because they're still being finalized, and if they change between now and launch I'll be able claim that was the plan all along. But I can safely say that we'll be taking a weekly look at retro gaming and Christopher's mom, among other topics. It will be riveting.

So there you have it! A random sampling of the changes you can expect when you visit Modojo daily (hourly?) in 2008. We have more goodies planned, but I'm keeping the rest under wraps, for now.
