PSOne Ports: Most Wanted

The PSP has been home to many ports that didn't make much sense, but many classic Playstation titles would be right at home in the portable arena. Here's our most wanted...

...Continued From Page 1 Xenogears (Square Enix)- For that matter, let's revisit another classic RPG, the fan favorite Xenogears. This struck out on a different tone than most of Squeenix's other titles, but it nonetheless contains a classic quality that can't be denied, even by today's more massive RPG standards.

Bust-a-Groove (Square Enix)- This could probably be the most cherished of all of Square Enix's back library of games, an addictive music/rhythm game that's sought after very highly by collectors. The gameplay is simple, following a waving bar as it goes over buttons that need to be pressed, but the rhythm of the songs is undeniable and the format strikes a chord of its own. A two-player versus match via AdHoc would make this a must-buy, if the content in the game didn't do that already. Either this or the sequel, Bust-a-Groove 2, would hit the spot. Hey, if Gitaroo Man can succeed, why not Bust-a-Bust?

Warhawk (SCEA)- With the PS3 version coming around sometime this year, the reintroduction of the original PS1 classic is probably in order. And since Incog, formerly known as Singletrac, still knows their way around programming, porting this game to the PSP should be a cinch. The game features a powerful hover jet that's armed to the teeth with all kinds of weapons, blasting enemies off the ground and out of the sky in droves. Sure, the game's only six stages long and has some of the most painful FMV acting ever conceived in a game, but it's all about the action here. And Warhawk has plenty to shake the battery out of your PSP.

Brave Fencer Musashi (Square Enix)- Now here's something you don't see out of the Squeenix catalog every day- a ninja adventure that's every bit as comical as it is sword-slicing. The game features a young ninja battling all kinds of dangers on an epic quest, one involving platforming techniques and fun battle tactics that make the game enjoyable to play for hours on end. The PS2 sequel may not have done as well, but then again, it was a different kind of game. The original stands on its own two feet, and should be considered for a re-release.

Soul Blade (Namco)- The fighting game that started it all for the Soul Calibur brand still deserves a nod to this day, due to the large selection of characters and the design of the game in general. The gameplay can probably be done on the PSP pad with ease, while the AdHoc options for multiplayer would be a nice touch. Let's see if the Soul can still burn on the PSP.
