The little system that could still outmuscled its color competition for almost seven years...

Tetris

Well duh. This is only THE puzzle game to end all puzzle games, as its programmers successfully introduced the world to a new form of video crack, that being the falling block puzzle game. Since that time, developers have flooded the world with falling blocks, but Tetris is still on top. Not even Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Lumines could knock it from its perch, despite Senor Cha Cha's glowing Modojo review.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan

Looking back, this TMNT isn't exactly the best of games, but at the time, people wanted the arcade NES experience and Ultra (Konami) delivered the goods. Just like TMNT the Arcade Game you can select from all four turtles and kick some foot soldier ass through a handful of missions. And just like in the NES game, the pizzas are real scarce.
Super Mario Land

This game is significant because it introduced some cool innovations in the Mario series. First, Mario piloted that submarine which is still fun to mess around with, but even more important than that is what happens when a small Mario picks up a fire flower. If big Mario is hit after unleashing a fire flower in the very first Super Mario Bros., when he touched the flower he'd just become big again (sans fire balls). But in Super Mario Land, midget Mario is automatically upgraded to fire ball form, something that's popped up in future games. But beyond these new ideas, the game is just a blast to play. Just a really cool adventure game.
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins

How do you build on the success of the original Super Mario Land? How about throwing in some rabbit ears, the hub world style navigation from Super Mario Bros. 3, and a brand new villain by the name of...oh what's his name? Oh yeah! Wario! Super Mario Land 2 is another kick butt Game Boy adventure game, and the inclusion of Wario sweetens the deal.
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge

The whip-cracking vampire killing franchise makes its way onto the Game Boy, complete with whips, chains, bats, monsters, and good old fashioned family fun. Highly recommended.
Zen: Intergalactic Ninja

Ninja Gaiden is sweet, but so is Zen, an action game about a ninja that cares about the environment. It's hard has hell and Zen moves like he's got photocopiers strapped to his legs (that means he's slow), but Intergalactic Ninja is still a cool niche game that's worth checking out.
