Gamevil USA Launches My Monster Pet

Faces only a mother could love

Everybody loves monsters. Remember those old Shreddies boxes that had those cheap little "monster in my pocket" toys? You know there was only one reason why we bought them.

Gamevil's My Monster Pet is a pet/monster simulation game where you raise your own virtual monster into one of 12 forms depending on how you choose to care for it.

"We wanted the player to be able to share the fun of My Monster Pet, so we included a feature that allows users to send monster eggs to their friends and family," said Stephanie Huang, Marketing Manager of GAMEVIL USA, Inc. "What's really interesting is that when the giver sends a secret message with the egg, the receiver will not be able to view that message until the monster pet grows up and evolves."

Your duties include feeding it, taking it to the hospital when it's sick (that oughta be an eyebrow raiser for the doctors on duty) and playing minigames with it. The minigames range from dancing to battle mazes and even karaoke. Like most tamogotchi-style games, the game world continues to advance even when the game is off, requiring players to check on their monsters occasionally, which I'm sure may limit its appeal somewhat to those who aren't wary of such caretaking obligations. Each monster has its own distinct personality and eggs can be sent to other players, although whether you're able to call them all back to form your own personal army ala "Gremlins" is in question somewhat.
