Greystripe Exceeds 14 Million Free Mobile Game Downloads

Ad-supported mobile game distributor Greystripe announced today that it has surpassed 14 million free mobile game downloads in its first 12 months of operation. The downloads primarily came from Greystripe's consumer portal GameJump.com, although white label Greystripe sites also contributed to the total.

Greystipe last revealed download figures in December 2006, when it announced that GameJump.com tallied 1.4 million game downloads in its first four months. This would seem to indicate that the company has gained significant consumer traction in 2007. 2007 downloads are averaging approximately 1.6 million monthly, compared to 350,000 monthly downloads in 2006, according to Greystripe's figures.

"In less than 12 months we have successfully shifted the economics of mobile content through the launch of Gamejump.com," Michael Chang, CEO of Greystripe said in a statement. "Now mobile gaming joins radio, Internet, and television as a form of entertainment that can be offered free to the consumer, supported by advertising in our case, before and after a consumer plays our titles."

Greystripe also announced some new usage and catalogue statistics. The company currently offers over 800 titles from 70 publishers. The average user has played 3.4 titles, and the number of female downloaders is "closing" on male downloaders.

All the titles are free for consumers to download and play, with publishers and Greystripe making money by serving up advertisements prior to each game session, as well as in-between levels and at other moments.

As of yet the top-tier mobile publishers haven't gotten on board. Greystripe has had the most success signing smaller mobile developers and publishers - companies that likely have had a hard time getting their titles on carrier decks.
