Hands-On announced today the Hands-On Mobile Runtime Environment (HOMBRE), a rapid-development platform. In order to illustrate the platform's ease of development, the company also announced the HOMBRE Widget development contest, with a $50,000 top prize for the winner.
Hands-On promises that HOMBRE will "revolutionizes how mobile applications are built and deployed" via its platform and handset-agnostic server-side development. The platform is intended to be accessible to anyone who has built XML-based services.
"From a developer's perspective, HOMBRE makes creating rich mobile applications as simple as web publishing. HOMBRE applications and content are automatically optimized for any handset, regardless of carrier, without compromising the user experience," said Hands-On Mobile Chief Technology Officer and SVP of Product Development Michael Temkin. "By eliminating the need to individually port each application to more than a thousand handsets, HOMBRE cuts both development costs and time to market."
HOMBRE's downloadable client includes what Hands-On promises is turnkey solutions for marketing and revenue opportunities including ad serving, and product feedback.
The company noted that HOMBRE has been in development for two years, with the network layer powering the multiplayer in such Hands-On titles as World Poker Tour: Texas Hold 'Em.
Hands-On is targeting Q2/Q3 2007 for the release of a suite of HOMBRE-powered apps, with most focused around sharing and social networking. Developer kits are also due in the second quarter, with more information available at http://www.gethombre.com.
